Share files with external link

You can share files from the app with people who don't have an account by creating an external link. This link can then be opened by the external person in a browser to download the file. You can add a password to the link, which must be entered before the download.

In the web/desktop client

1. Click on in the left sidebar.

2. Select the "Personal" tab to access files that you have uploaded or copied to your personal file storage. Select the "Chats" tab to access the files you have uploaded to share with others in chats.

3. Click on the icon next to the file you want to share.

4. A menu will open. Click on "Share Link URL".

5. A “Generate Link” view will open. You can use a slider to set whether a password should be required to download the file. If you activate the "Password protected" switch, you must assign a password.

6. Click on “Generate Link”.

7. You can now view the following information in the view. You can also reopen the view at a later time.

   1. Share link: The link that you can share with external parties is displayed at the top. Click on "Copy" to the right of the link to copy the link directly to your clipboard.

   2. "Activated" slider: You can disable the link by activating the slider. When you click on the link, you will then only see the message "Wir konnten die Datei leider nicht finden.".

   3. Protected by password: You can see whether the link was generated with or without a password. You cannot edit this. If necessary, delete the link and create it again.

   4. Statistics: Under "Views", you can see how often the link has been accessed. Under "Created on", you can see the date the link was created. Under "Downloads," you can see how often the file has been downloaded via the link.

   5. Delete link: Click on "Delete link" in the bottom right-hand corner to delete the share link. If you want to allow access with the same link later, you should deactivate the link instead. Deletion is necessary in order to change the password setting for the link.

In iOS

1. Tap the menu in the top right corner.

2. Tap on " Files".

3. Navigate to the file you want to share. For files you've uploaded or copied to your personal file storage, tap the "Personal" tab. For files you've shared with others in chats, tap “Chats”. You can search and filter files.

4. Tap and hold the file.

5. A menu will open. Tap "Share Link."

6. The "Link" view will open. Choose whether you want to add a password to the share link and enter the password if necessary.

7. Tap "Generate link" at the bottom.

8. You can now see the following information in the view:

   1. Share link: The link that you can share with external parties is displayed at the top. Tap on the link to copy it directly to the clipboard.

   2. Visibility: You can see whether the link was generated with or without a password. You cannot edit this. If necessary, delete the link and create it again.

   3. "Activate" slider: You can deactivate the link by activating the slider. When you click on the link, you will only see the message “Wir konnten die Datei leider nicht finden.".

In Android

1. Tap the menu in the top right corner.

2. Tap on " File storage".

3. Navigate to the file you want to share. For files you've uploaded or copied to your personal file storage, tap "Personal" at the bottom. For files you have shared with others in chats, tap Chats. You can search and filter files.

4. Tap the icon to the right of the file name.

5. A menu will open. Tap on "Share Link".

6. The "Generate link" view will open. Select whether you want to add a password to the share link and enter the password if necessary.

7. Tap "Generate link" at the bottom.

8. You can now see the following information in the view: You can view this information later by tapping on > Details > Link.
