Create multi-level folder structures in the file storage

You can create multi-level folder structures in the file storage. You can move files between folders.

Create subfolders

In the web/desktop client

  1. Go to the file storage you want to structure.

    1. Open Personal File Storage. Click on Cloud.svg in the sidebar on the left. Click on the "Personal" tab at the top.

    2. Open a chat's file storage. Click on the chat. Click on Info.svg . Click on "Shared files".

  2. Navigate to the file storage folder where you want to create a subfolder.

  3. Click on the "+ " icon.

  4. A menu will open. Select "Folder".

  5. The "Create Folder" view will open. Enter the folder name.

  6. Click on "Create Folder".

In iOS

  1. Go to the file storage you want to organize.

    1. Open Personal File Storage. Tap the menu_24dp_1F1F1F_FILL0_wght400_GRAD0_opsz24.svg menu. Tap " Cloud.svg Files" in the sidebar on the left. Tap "Personal" at the bottom.

    2. Open a chat's file storage. Tap on the chat. Tap the chat name. Tap on " Cloud.svg Shared files".

  2. Navigate to the file storage folder where you want to create a subfolder.

  3. Tap the circled Navigation.Horizontal.svg icon at the top.

  4. A menu will open. Select "Create folder".

  5. The "New folder" view will open. Enter the folder name.

  6. Click on "Create".

In Android

  1. Go to the file storage you want to organize.

    1. Open Personal File Storage. Tap the menu_24dp_1F1F1F_FILL0_wght400_GRAD0_opsz24.svg menu. Tap on " Cloud.svg File storage" in the sidebar on the left. Tap the "Personal" tab at the top.

    2. Open a chat's file storage. Tap the chat. Tap the chat name. Tap " Cloud.svg Shared Files"

  2. Navigate to the file storage folder where you want to create a subfolder.

  3. Tap the + at the bottom

  4. A menu will open. Select "Folder".

  5. The "Create folder" view will open. Enter the folder name.

  6. Tap "Create".

Moving files or folders

Please note that in some chats, you can only move, rename, and delete files that you have uploaded yourself. In channels, channel managers can move, rename, and delete all files.

In the web/desktop client

  1. Go to the file or folder you want to move.

  2. Click on the Navigation.Vertical.svg icon to the right of the file name/folder name.

  3. A menu will open. Select "Move."

  4. The "Move File" view will open. Click through the existing folder structure and select the destination.

  5. The file path is displayed above the files in the open folder. To return to a higher-level folder, click on the name of the higher-level folder in the file path.

  6. You can create a new folder in the selection location by clicking on "Create new folder." A text field will then open in the open folder, in which you can enter the new folder name. Click on the check mark to confirm the new folder.

  7. Click on "Move file" in the lower right corner.

In iOS

  1. Go to the file or folder you want to move.

  2. Tap and hold the file name.

  3. A menu will open. Select "Move".

  4. Navigate through the existing folder structure and select the destination.

    1. To return to higher-level folders, tap "Back" at the top left.

    2. You can create a new folder at the selection location by tapping the circled Navigation.Horizontal.svg icon in the upper right corner. Select "Create folder". Enter the folder name and confirm by tapping "Create" in the lower right corner.

  5. Tap the check mark in the upper right corner.

In Android

  1. Go to the file or folder you want to move.

  2. Tap the Navigation.Vertical.svg icon to the right of the file name/folder name.

  3. Tap "Move".

  4. Navigate through the existing folder structure and select the destination.

    1. To return to parent folders, tap above the files on “[parent folder name] Back”.

    2. You cannot create a subfolder in the Move dialog.

  5. Tap "Move" at the bottom right.
