Any user with the appropriate permissions can create channels to communicate with an unlimited number of users.
Unlike group conversations, you cannot add users to a channel, you can only invite them. Only administrators can create channels in which users are automatically members.
Unlike group conversations, there are channel managers. Channel managers can remove users from channels. When you create a channel, you automatically become the channel manager. For more information, see the article Manage a channel .
Most user roles have permission to create channels. As an administrator, you can grant permissions. For more information, please refer to the article: Edit and create user roles .
The creation of public and password-protected channels can be prevented by the administration. If the functions described below are required but cannot be selected, refer your administrator to the article Additional organizational settings | Erstellung öffentlicher und kennwortgeschützter Channels verbieten.
In the web/desktop client

Click on the
icon on the left. -
Click on the
icon to the right of the term "Channels." -
The "New Channel" view opens. You must give the channel a name. Enter the name of the channel in the "Channel name" text field.

You can enter a description of the channel in the "Description" text field.

You can upload a channel image:

Click on the small camera icon at the bottom right of the field with the # symbol.

Select an image file on your computer.

You will then be asked to specify the image section for the channel image. Click on "Save picture".

You can select the channel type. This changes the access permissions and encryption settings for the channel. As a user, you cannot change this setting later. Click on the term "Encrypted" to open a menu with the channel types. For more information on channel properties, please refer to the article Channel Types.

"Encrypted": The channel is end-to-end encrypted. Further information: Encrypted channels

You can also decide whether the channel should be hidden. To do this, activate the "Hidden" slider. A hidden channel cannot be found by users outside the channel using the channel search. This can be edited later. For more information, see the article Joining a channel.

You can activate the "Invitation permissions" slider. If the checkbox is selected, only channel managers can invite new users to the channel.

"Password protected": Select "Password protected" from the menu. The "Password" section appears with two text fields. For more information, see Password-protected channels.

Choose a password and repeat it in the line below. The buttons on the right-hand side make the password visible to you as the creator. If users outside the channel enter this password, they can join the channel without an invitation from the channel search. For more information, see the article Joining a channel.

You can activate the "Invitation permissions" slider. If the check mark is set, only channel managers can invite new users to the channel.

You can configure that only channel managers are allowed to write messages. To do this, to do this, check the "Read-Only" option in the "Settings" section.

You can set the system so that event information is not displayed. This includes, for example, notifications for new members and leaving members, invitations to surveys, or invitations to appointments. If you do not want any event information to be displayed, press the "Show event information" button. If you only want to deactivate notifications for new members and leaving members, press the "Join/Leave notifications" button.

Click on "Create Channel".
