Remove accounts from an organization

Administrators can remove accounts from the organization. In this article you can find an explanation and a how-to-guide.

Remove accounts from your organization (administrator)

This option is only available in the web-/desktop client. It is not possible to directly delete another account, you will only remove the account from your organization.

To be able to remove users from your organization, you must have a user role, which has the "list users" and "delete users" permissions.

  1. Click on the Settings.svg at the bottom left corner and select “Organization settings”.

  2. Select “User” in the left menu.

    1. To remove a single user:

      1. Click on the Navigation.Vertical.svg next to the user.

      2. Select "Remove from organization".

    2. To remove multiple users:

      1. Select the users or use the Filter.svg filter options to only show specific users. You can select all users by checking the checkbox next to “Users” on the top.

      2. Symbols have appeared at the top now and you can click the Bin.svg symbol, to remove the users from your organization.

Information regarding auto-selection of multiple users with the checkbox next to “user”:

Only 75 users will be shown when opening the page.
To view more users, you need to scroll down so that more users will be loaded gradually.
(you can hover the mouse above the first user and then click your mousewheel to easily scroll to the bottom by moving the mouse down and load all users)
After every user has been checked automatically you can still un-check single users. Please make sure that no unwanted users are checked.

If a removed account was not part of another organization the user will be logged out and the account will be removed during the night.

Accidental removal of an account

If an account is accidentally removed from his only organization the user will instantly be logged out on all of his devices.
But the ‘real’ deletion of the account will happen during nighttime, where a script runs through and deletes every account without a valid organization membership.

Therefore it is possible to ‘restore’ an accidentally removed account (NOT account deletion which can be initiated by the user) until nighttime, by creating a new registration key and having the user register with the same e-mail adress.
During registration he will be informed that there already exists an account with that e-mail adress and that it is possible to merge the accounts.
This has to be authorized by using the account password.

After a successful merge the account is restored. The user will be able to see the previous conversations and their messages, but the user needs to join / be invited to the channels again and needs to be added to contact groups again as well.

If the account password is unknown, it is not possible to restore the account.
